Open Call: Artwork for Zine, Issue #9

Issue #9

Zine stack from previous issue

No Jobs in the Arts are now taking entries for their ninth zine edition. They are seeking existing visual artwork submissions, from early-career creatives currently living, working, making, or studying in the Midlands, UK.

Zine Theme

The theme for Issue #9 is Immigration. This could include artwork by creatives with lived experience of immigration, or artwork about migration, for example. Submissions could feature work from creatives who have worked with communities, families, or friends that have experienced immigration. All submissions to the open call should explore, reflect, expand or document immigration, or similar topics.

Open Call Eligibility

No Jobs in the Arts are seeking submissions of visual art for this open call. They define visual art simply: ‘if we can print any piece of the artwork, we’ll consider including it in the zine’.

Submissions are open to early-career creatives. No Jobs in the Arts use no single criteria to define what an early-career creative is. So, it is up to the creative to decide if submitting to the zine opportunity is beneficial to them. Past zines are listed on this page to help illustrate the opportunity.

The opportunity is unsuitable for any creative under the age of sixteen at the time of submission.

The opportunity is unsuitable for any creative who does not have a link to the Midlands, UK. That is to say creatives currently living, working, making, or studying in the Midlands region. The East and West Midlands is the central part of England, bordered by Wales, Northern England, Southern England and the North Sea.

Please only submit artwork that is relevant to the theme of this open call, immigration, as described above.

Zine Opportunity

Up to six creatives will be featured and interviewed for the zine – each will be paid a fee of £60. The creatives and artworks will be selected from the open call by a guest curator.

Issue #9 will be distributed digitally, and in print, across the region and beyond, for free. There is no charge to submit to this opportunity.

No Jobs in the Arts asks creatives and readers to support the future of the zine, by using a pay what you want model. They do this to give creatives and readers autonomy over what they can afford, with no judgement. No Jobs in the Arts fundraise to run projects and pay those involved fairly. To support the project, you can make a donation here.
